i'm looking run pure ubuntu os on macbook pro no partition possible?

downloaded ubuntu 10.11 64bit website , burned onto dvd+r disc threw disk utility , when restarted , boot cd , error came saying "preset not set" or quick read. come screen asks me 1.try ubuntu out installing, 2.install ubuntu, , 3. detect disc defects. each 1 of these options results in alot of loud disk drive noise , black screens nothing happens , have force restart.

i'm downloading ubuntu-11.10-desktop-amd64+mac.iso proper os file should burning onto dvd disk?

if can me out great.

you need install refit first since mac's use efi not bios boot. can boot install disk, try adding "nomodeset" kernel parameters. resolved black screen me.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
