What is the easiest "fade out" practice for top layer element

win 7, prpro cs6

i have video of person speaking on layer 1.

i putting slides on layer 3, white background slide on layer 2.

i go 0% opacity 100% capacity on first 15 frames "fade in" these layer 2/3 elements, 100% 0% in last 15 frames "fade out"

 

this works great. easy long these "slide" elements standard lengths. 5 seconds, 10 seconds, 8 seconds, etc. when these standard lengths, create preset fade-in/out @ appropriate lengths, drag , drop on elements on layer 2 , 3, , voila - works , have slides fade in , out.

 

the challenge have time slides video, move adjust them various lengths.

 

so, here doing.

1. drag elements media browser timeline. default 5 seconds each.

2. drag preset onto them "5 second fade in" goes 0% opacity 100% opacity in 15 frames.

3. adjust length of clips whatever length fits context of video.

4. (i don't part)  - go each clip, , add 2 keyframes end, fading opacity 100% 0% in last 15 frames.

 

i hoping there way fade out clip through type of drag , drop not proportional length of clip. way, no matter how long clip on timeline, fades in 100% in first 15 frames , fades out 0% in last 15 frames.

 

anyone got best practice me?

i'd drag v2/v3 layers onto timeline, making them longer need them in video. then, nest v2 & v3 layers. if have video transition default duration (preferences > general) set 15 frames, apply default dissolve transition each end of nest , trim correct length. great thing dissolves stay there when change duration of nest. if ever need make nest longer anticipated - no problem. step nest, drag edges of slides make them longer inside nest, step out of nest , trim nest new, longer length. , - dissolves still @ beginning , end. hope helps! -mike
