How can I remove artifacts when using 3D Extrude & Bevel?

hi all,

 

i don't have experience in illustrator, , i'm experiencing issue 3d extrude & bevel effect. namely, there "artifacts" anchor points lie on paths.

 

here's sample:

you may need zoom in on image see them, there thin white lines bisect extrusion anchor points lie. there abrupt changes in appearance of extrusion @ these same points. these anomalies don't appear in illustrator, , it's when convert image or pdf show up.

 

there way remove these artifacts using effect? , if not, there different (better?) way achieve same effect?

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
