text placement problem in photoshop 4

i can't control text placement in photoshop 4. when enter 2 letters, line zooms off right - right off image. tried uninstalling , reinstalling , didn't help

your talking photoshop elements 4?

or version such old ps4 or photoshop cs4?

 

if it's photoshop elements 4, might try resetting text tool clicking on big t in tool options bar , clicking on reset tool

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
