Thread: stuck at ubuntu splash screen after boot

after boot, ubuntu not past splash screen right before login. opened console, ctrl-alt-f1, logged in , checked logs. nothing relevant pops out. stopped lightdm service running following.

code:
sudo service lightdm stop
after stopping service, ran startx. started session.

suggestions on how system booting login normally?

whats case after restarting pc , getting same problem again ?

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings. how do I change the e-mail address for my merchant account
