Thread: Upgrade in BIOS kills sleep function

i using hp p6710f. upgraded bios version 6.06 6.07 restarting windows , executing file provided. oddly, since then, when screen goes turns off in ubuntu after time of inactivity (as programmed do), doesn't come when jiggle mouse or press key. have hold down power button or navigate blindly ctrl-alt-f1 screen , type in sudo shutdown -r 0 command (yes, able - after doing so, display came on, show me shutdown sequence).

why doing this, , there fix? compiled kernel not knowing new bios?

i have ask
bios update necessary?

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
