Thread: Advice on Partitions

hello all,

formatted hdd , ready fresh install of ubuntu. later installing windows 7 on side want have available.

looking have partition for
1. windows 7
2. ubuntu
3. files partition
4. reading making /home own partition make re-installs easier
5. swap.

regards swap, reading making swap file instead of partition partition better , didn't understand whole swap file bit rather leaves me 5 partitions...any thoughts?

install windows first! can install later can tweaking headache.

/home on separate partition , /swap partition of 2gb. advice be:

install windows
create extended partition remaining disk space
when installing ubuntu choose manually partition when part of install
create /, /home, /swap logical partitions within extended 1 (you can create other partitions these 3 available default).

see windows partition in there (it ntfs). leave alone. more 4 partitions on 1 physical drive not possible extended necessary (this seen 1 partition regardless of how many logical partitions put inside it). 'my files partition' exist? if not use /home that.

hope helps , luck.
