Thread: Graphics problems with laptop

hi,

have hp pavilion zd7060ea, 1.25gb ram, nvidia geforce fx go 5600, intel pentium 4 3.06ghz.

(in windows 7, used work fine , had no problems).

facing graphics problems ubuntu 11.10. using nvidia driver version 96, although have used 173 , encounter same problems.

problems are:

when starting up, instead of seeing purple background , ubuntu logo dots signalling loading, see large black , white lines, although boot desktop properly. ditto when shutting down, encounter these black , white lines again, although shut off properly.

random crashing, when using computer, watching youtube videos or playing minecraft, randomly freezes , can not fixed without force shutting down laptop.

suspend problems, when trying resume computer suspend, fails wake display, cannot see @ until shutdown , restart computer (force, using button). same thing happens when trying resume display after turns off display after period of time (5 minutes), cannot see display until shutting down , restarting.

on other hand, how did load drivers?

should find recommended 173 driver on repositories plus 1 (experemental) 3d effects.
both should work.
go "additional drivers" , should there.

otherwise, go synaptics , install following packages:

nvidia-glx-173
nvidia-glx-173-dev
nvidia-173-kernel-source
nvidia-173
nvidia-173-dev

install above , reboot , see happens.


note: no need must uninstall drivers relating driver version 96.
