Thread: How to handle proxy at work but not at home?

at first had lot of problems how specify proxy. have liked specify proxy.pac file in 1 place , had take effect applications (firefox , apt-get starters) seems there no single standard specifying or have missed how it?

have more serious problem - @ home not use proxy @ work must specify one. unfortunatly seems when have proxy specified (to make things needed when @ work) not work when @ home (apt-get complain proxy server cant found).

there way make things work automatically both @ home , @ work, i.e. both , without proxy server?

you use 2 different browsers , 1 @ work ,then different 1 @ home....... set 1 use proxy , other not to.

or firefox add-on foxyproxy

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
