Thread: Is my Hard Drive dead? Input/Output errors.

hi , happy new year

i'm trying work out if ssd drive 1 old aspire 1 dead or if recoverable , on checking it's state.

drive mounts live usb , can access of info on nautilus whilst other parts of drive such home directory throw numerous input/output errors various directories - although can access directories in home folder.

when try , format/delete drive gparted input/output error (error fsyncing/closing /dev/sda: input/output error)

have suggestions on what, if steps can take fix drive or likley dead?

there nothing needs saved on drive taking hard hitting , severe action not issue.

in advance , let me know if more info required.

drive seems on it's last breath, may able hide bad sectors fail sooner or later, relatively inexpensive drives available, better replace drive.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings. how do I change the e-mail address for my merchant account
