Thread: MySQL to PostgreSQL translation guide for newbies?

so... i've tinkered mysql bit off , on, enough able around in enough using either console or phpmyadmin. can find need via searching.

reason keep running wall postgresql, though. there *way* fewer books on it, , of seem targeted more towards professional dbas - folks know terms throw around mean, not still more or less newbie. of tutorials find postgres cover using developer - not can find new guy old pc running linux in basement wants dabble postgresql.

admin documentation postgres seems more of reference, assuming reader knows want , needs refresher on syntax. there *very* short beginner section towards end of postgres docs on setting couple tables, thats it.

reason phppgadmin kicks behind. maybe because i'm not understanding postgresql terminology?

else feel way postgresql docs? missing something? there kind of commercial documentation (i.e. books) out there bridge gap i'm not finding?

the best thing use pgadmin iii.

best resource still postgres website.

can use make queries etc, @ least until knack of it.

doing first proj in postgresql coming mysql , postgresql defiantly more advanced database.

arguable things better/worse vs mysql find using proper sql convention when doing selects inserts etc best way go.

fortunately me learned oracle 9i when @ uni didnt have "too" trouble going postgres.

remember things `table`.`column` mysql pretty cowboy , allow table.column , on windows systems table.column pretty unconventional least.
