Thread: Sony dvd-rw not working upon install

hello, have old p3, had xp on it, sony dvd burner worked fine. since it's older machine, decided install ubuntu 4.1 (had disc lying around).

not able read dvds, cds through drive

figuring upgrade help, upgraded 11.10.

still same problem - not recognize dvds.

have not found drivers device.

has had problem before?

help!!

i've searched through forums, trying few tricks now, can't find concrete.

don't need watch dvds, want transfer data.

i've noticed other folks have problems sony dvds.

i'm thinking, might buy used non-sony dvd player, nice n easy.

if doesn't work, more advice, thanks!!

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings. how do I change the e-mail address for my merchant account
