Thread: Sound coming from headphones and speakers.

hello, i'm having bit of trouble ubuntu 10.04 working great, besides when plug in headphones doesn't mute laptop speakers.. can annoying @ night when want listen music without blasting throughout house.
i've tried normal stuff going terminal , lowering actual speakers , turning headphones, when turn down speakers headphones turn down , when turn headphone switch headphones stay mute. i'm guessing it's seeing headphones part of speakers , not separate.
worked fine in windows before installed ubuntu.
