Thread: Unity Disappeared

was: hp 64 bit hp g62 laptop w/ radeon 4200 running oneiric unity
is: same machine running maverick gnome 2.x

didn't change system, didn't add effects, did work in netbeans, checked mail, closed lid , went bed. woke yesterday morning, no unity. nothing. top bar useless. data , apps still there, popped terminal able whatever needed, still. this. ain't. quite. right. logged out, logged in, same same. restarted machine, no joy.

accused 20-somethings of messing laptop. nope. honestly, none of them motivated or smart enough damage on linux system.

no unity. rassfrrassn!!! shyte. miss it. had not gotten used it, had started begrudgingly it.

until disappeared. --reset did no good, nor ccsm advice found elsewhere on forums , net. no freakin unity. dumped system, re-installed maverick. have concrete fix or have idea why happening? appears happening lot of people, not quite way happened me, hence new post.

spent day working on maverick, thinking changing distros, hate give on ubuntu. feel going out , getting strange.

can't stick system fails without me causing failure.

have ideas besides --reset or "make sure , checked in ccsm"?

so...let's clarify situation...
happened on oneiric laptop, right? closed lid, , next day, unity decided go awol.
log out, , log in ubuntu session. unity session.

code:

logged out, logged in, same same. restarted machine, no joy.

so should repeat of logging out , in.
log out again, , log ubuntu 2d. provides same functionality unity, doesn't good. since doesn't require 3d acceleration, should use less memory , work faster.
can't think of else though...
