Where is the bottleneck in my system?
hi all, i've spent hours reading forums , have learned lot still not enough determine easiest , best steps increase system speed. i'm using cs5 burn std def dvds avchd files on sd card (please, no lectures on downgrading quality, need clients). each project 40min of footage (80 or clips shot in 1080p30 avchd), editing adding fade in , fade out, , removing few unwanted clips. use: adobe dynamic link - send encore burn dvd. simple yet takes approx 60min transcode 40 minutes of footage few minutes burn dvd. i'm hoping shorten time. here system specs:
| mobo | asus p6t deluxe v2 intel x58 |
| processor | intel core i7-920 |
| ram | corsair xms3 12gb (6x2gb) ddr3 1333 |
| boot drive | wd 750gb 7200rpm sata 32mb |
| project/scratch drive | wd 1tb 7200rpm sata 32mb |
| media drive | wd 1tb 7200rpm sata 32mb |
| case | cooler master had 932 full tower |
| power | corsair 750w |
| dvd drive | lite-on 24x dvd writer sata w. lightscribe |
| graphics card | sapphire radeon hd 4850 512mb hdcp ready |
| os | windows 7 ultimate 64 bit oem |
i not have nvidea card , have not maxed out ram. nvidea card speed process (encore transcoding footage)? more ram?
can suggest decent video card 2yo home built system (i'm comfortable hacking .txt file)? there limit on how ram can use system?
i really appreciate advice!

chris,
with workflow, avchd -->> mpeg2-dvd, benefit nvidia cuda capable card @ least 1 gb vram because every frame needs rescaled 1920 x 1080 720 x 480 (ntsc) or 729 x 576 (pal). gpu accelerated. speaking gives 20 fold performance gain.
if register on site, ppbm6 , login, can navigate ppbm6 results , see impact of cuda enabled card in columns mpeg2-dvd , mpe gain. specific test single avchd track lots of effects exported mpeg2-dvd, workflow. unfortunately can't submit results, because don't have suitable gpu card installed, can idea of how time possibly gain running test anyway , seeing how long specific test takes.
the second bottleneck amount of memory. 12 gb bare minimum on mobo, 1 wonders if wise invest in memory on such dated system. third bottleneck clock speed. clear performance gain if overclock around 3.8 ghz.
