Controlling the name of a PDF split

i need keep consitant number of digits in name of pdf.  when split document, increments.  how can make names either 3 or 4 digits consistantly.

 

need:

pdf_0001.pdf (page 1)

pdf_0002.pdf (page 2)

pdf_0003.pdf (page 3)

...

pdf_0010.pdf (page 10)

pdf_0011.pdf (page11)

...

pdf_0100.pdf (page 100)

...

pdf_1000.pdf (page 1000)

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings. how do I change the e-mail address for my merchant account
