Photoshop & Illustrator Key colour problem

help! have created b/w graphic gradients in illustrator , saved cmyk .pdf (cant see greyscale options) , opened file in photoshop create .jpg. problem deepest black 91% after conversion want 100% black!

ideas how fix this?

while no expert on subject there reason using cmyk?  posts read indicate use rgb fpr edits , convert cymk on last step if needed.  colors may not same.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings. how do I change the e-mail address for my merchant account
