hello, accidentally messed ubuntu os on 1 of hard drives. long story. anyhow, have old hard drive mounted , have extracted 'unhidden' data. need download .purple pidgin logs; i'm new ubuntu. opened root terminal , tried cd'd way folder be, same when access it, shows normal files. know how can files this?

edit: seems can go .purple file , see says "aim, irc, msn" , on. how move folders other place?

edit2: found out how move, nothing needed here much. however, tutorial messed aim folder. told type mv "aim" ~/desktop
did , can't find aim folder on either desktop top now...

hi - sure it's not ~/user/desktop? check root filesystem /desktop

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings. how do I change the e-mail address for my merchant account
