Thread: Windows or Linux? (on 512ram, 3.2GHz)

my old computer (with above specs) running fine on windows xp, lags terribly after booting up, , when avg runs in background. i'm thinking of switching on linux if performance good. however, on webpage, says ubuntu requires @ least 1gb of ram operate it's recommended try out xubuntu alternative. but, visuals ubuntu. so, should stick xp, or switch ubuntu (provided it's not lagging) ?

if want try out ubuntu. can burn livecd , boot it. read rate (time boot up, access programs, etc) horrendous, can play around of features , feel how performs. if more xp, go it.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings. how do I change the e-mail address for my merchant account
