Thread: Wired Network not connecting with Firefox

i have asus netbook eee pc series 1011 , have installed ubuntu 11.10. have read people have had luck installing ubuntu desktop on these netbooks on eeebuntu versions , seems me working few exceptions have no idea how fix.

1) first issue internet connection. wire plugged in , setup ipv4 settings per required internet setup have in house. don't have access router here, have rj-45 plug wall computer. each of has address, netmask, gateway , dns server numbers. have same setup on normal laptop here using windows. network , connections work fine. on netbook, when open firefox keep trying connect. doesn't return server not found, interestingly though i'm sure i'm close not quite there yet. can't see how couldn't use same ipv4 settings on netbook unless issue, seems rather unlikely. if has ideas love hear them.

2) in using software center never see install button. have idea why might be?

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings. how do I change the e-mail address for my merchant account
