Drop Shadows in Photshop Elements 10

i have been interested in working drop shadows in photoshop elements 10.  wanting able drop shadow photos without type of frame behind it.  (no faint outline of frame or anything) simple drop shadow.  (like have in picmonkey photo editor , ipiccy)  have been checking out lot of tutuorials on photoshop elements on drop shadows, cannot find tutorials showing how drop shadows without frame behind it.  if me or give me advice on how this, sure appreciated!

this needs done manually. try this:

 

 

  1. open file
  2. duplicate background layer, shut off visibilityof background layer, work on background copy layer
  3. select object drop shadow,  using 1 of selection tools, e.g. selection brush or lasso tool
  4. place object on own layer (ctrl+j) ---layer 1
  5. open blank layer @ top ---layer 2
  6. press ctrl+left click layer thumbnail of layer 1
  7. make layer 2 active again , fill selection black (edit>fill selection>black)
  8. drag layer 2 below layer 1
  9. get move tool out of toolbox , keyboard arrow keys move black filled selection right , down
  10. reduce  opacity of layer 2

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
