Having problems with the clone stamp in this picture

is there might doing wrong won't let me clone black background of picture.  i'm using inspiron 8600 (old) laptop, until desktop get's repaired.  can cloning.  laptop being pushed it's max.  i'm trying fill in background , crop.  picture used display of woodworking items being available sale.

have created proper mask objects yet?

if using inverted on layer group might allow paint in background or use clone stamp tool more »brutally«.

 

what fails?

could please post screenshot pertinent panels/bars visible?

what performance preferences?

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings. how do I change the e-mail address for my merchant account
