HTTPS + VPN

i tried out virtual private network (vpn) first time. after reading little vpn's , https, i'm intrigued. both sound attractive options era when privacy endangered species.

 

i wondered how web designers approach issue. began publicly warning visitors microsoft - ie - long before fashionable. , right. today, there several better browsers choose from, , apple bigger m$, while bing never catch google.

 

so kind of trend see regarding https , vpn's? these technologies going become norm, or @ least common, or on fringe?

 

how 1 make website https-compatible, , think idea? understanding doesn't work unless every web page on site https. if go https page http page, you're more vulnerable spying or attacks, if understand correctly.

 

it sounds https pages can take little longer load.

 

so hunch https might not worth playing unless can offer website in 2 flavors - http , https.

 

so let's have website - www.mysite.com - 100 pages. there way modify site visitors can 1) choose between surfing in http or https mode, , 2) make every page https-compatible choose latter?

 

if embrace technology, i'd educate visitors , promote https and/or vpn @ same time. i'm experimenting vpn right now, , seems work ok, though still have lot learn it.

 

between cia , microsoft, suppose there's no way 100% secure, think either surfing in https mode or using vpn help, , 2 of them combined ought better.

 

any thoughts?

https encrypted , slower http.  costs more.  don't see necessity unless you're collecting, storing or transmitting sensitive data such credit cards, medical records, banking transactions, etc...  there little point in using level of encryption on pages don't require it.
