Need help with color and effects for text on path

hi,

i working on project in indesign , have added text path of circle (see image - save date text along path). having 2 issues:

 

1) used eyedropper tool pick orange flowers , applied text (save date). when apply color, vivid dulls. happens no matter color apply. starts bright , dulls. cannot figure out setting have applied makes happen.

 

2) have applied drop shadow object (the circle), not want applied save date text. however, seems 2 linked. how can unlink them , apply separate effects?

 

if can assist these 2 issues, appreciate it! have searched in forums cannot find these specific answers.

is flower image? rgb image in particular , document in cmyk?

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings. how do I change the e-mail address for my merchant account
