Thread: After installing updates for 11.10, startup hangs at "Checking battery status"
hi everyone, new problem started last night. i've been using oneiric ocelot on dell inspiron 1525 laptop week. everything's been perfect until last night, when called "apt-get updates" first time , reset computer when done. login goes normal until gives message "checking battery status..." , hangs. control-c nothing, , way found out hit sleep button on laptop abort entire process. first checks vmware, lamp apache server, , battery status, hangs. left on 8 hours while slept, know it's not issue of patience.
there wasn't problem before installing updates, , if boot in recovery mode, can terminal fine , log profile @ terminal prompt, though don't know how/if can enter ubuntu shell there. haven't brought copy of startup text since doesn't have error messages , can't transfer electronically, if it's necessary, i'll write down , show here.
know laptop has battery problems, because let run down once in 2010 , refuses charge more 22% capacity. ubuntu might trying solve legitimate problem, far i'm concerned battery's unfixable (not i've tried it, anyway).
can see @ least 2 routes solving this:
1. find way bypass/prevent battery status check happening @ startup;
2. find way enter ubuntu shell after logging in via recovery mode;
, if there're others, better. also, if suggests removing battery, i've never done before on computer , i'm both short on know-how , afraid of repercussions. don't know if i'm ready yet, unless has guide on it. thanks.
i may incorrect, assumed 'battery check' computer's internal battery (the 1 runs computers clock). laptop (external) battery life shouldn't issue, can run laptop plugged-in power.
sorry, know doesn't much.
