Thread: Connection timeout when removing ttf-mscorefonts-installer

i'm new ubuntu (and linux in general). version i'm using ubuntu 10.10

wanted burn mp3 on cd brasero, tried installing ubuntu restricted extras software center, freezes on "applying changes" restarted computer.

seeing ubuntu restricted extras showing "installed" in software center tried burn mp3 brasero, after drag/drop file brasero freezes. wanted re-install using commandline time.

first tried removing ubuntu restricted extras in software center, software center freezes had restart computer.

tried removing ubuntu restricted extras in terminal. process kept trying connect various networks including "download.source.net...". of attempts failed "timeout", "connected" showed http error 404

tried removing ttf-mscorefonts-installer in terminal same problem - connection timeouts, endless attempt connect.

login root , deleted ttf-mscorefonts-installer.deb in "var/.../archives", seemed make no difference situation.

please

which download mirror use? may worth changing mirror through package manager.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
