Thread: Killed Ubuntu 11.10 - how to recover?

i have been working on system mythtv. installed myth apt-get. added root password. got of mythtv working. installed lirc apt-get. system won't boot. can't text screen. when try ssh prompt user , password no response after enter password. couple things may have done kill it...

when installed lirc script asked remote type, transmitter type, , serial port. serial ports 1 or 2 - none not option although that's wanted. since have 1 serial port , wanted use other things (i have mceusb device lirc) selected serial port 2 not exist (afaik). added line
/etc/rc.local lirc responded ir events (at least purpose):
echo lirc > /sys/class/rc/rc0/protocols

lirc complained not able load kernel modules during install. when rebooted wouldn't start. looks need boot live cd fix (the rescue mode worked ended in read file system). also, not sure need @ or fix. can reverse change /etc/rc.local , can change load_modules false in lirc config guesses...

did more checking. of log files show date matches last attempted boot 0 length - boot, udev, dmesg. kern.log contains last entry of yesterday - last operation. post end of - couple of "nx (execute disable)..." else should checking?
