Thread: Make two separate networks visible to each other
hi all. new here, please gentle..... being complete newbie… stuck… setup following: isp modem provides me internet connection; ubuntu server wired directly modem; netgear wireless router wired directly modem; 4 laptops (3 running windows 7) , 1 running lubuntu connect wirelessly netgear router. computers (i.e. 4 laptops , ubuntu server) have internet access.
ubuntu server has ip address 192.168.1.10; netgear router @ 192.168.1.11. laptops have ip addresses in range 10.0.0.2 – 10.0.0.8.
want use ubuntu server (with 2tb hard disk) common shared storage laptops. have been trying set samba cannot make laptops see smb shares. suspect problem laptops , server on different networks (192.168.1.1 , 10.0.0.1, respectively) , therefore cannot see each other. cannot ping server laptops , vice versa.
please me setup. problem have ip forwarding? else? more read more confused since not guy…
hi , welcome ubuntu forums. , complete description of network , issue.
myself, setuup netgear wireless router switch instead of router. put laptops , lubuntu on same local sub-net ubuntu server.
now. answer actual question: yes, current problem related needing port forwarding setup on netgear router. edit: difficult port forwarding problem backwards normal way (i think). edit 2: more think it, more don't think forwarding issue can done typical bought router. done iptables.
let know how want proceed , we'll further.
