Thread: Minimum ATI card for tear-free @ 1080p?

i tried install ubuntu on older box (see specs below) try , use file/media server. however, i've run i've found common problem linux. hd video (and sd video) tear pretty badly when played on nvidia 8800gt + 1920x1080 monitor. thus, i'm looking @ low-end ati cards use "tear free" feature in recent catalyst versions has worked me well, @ least radeon 5750. question bare minimum ati card should tear-free playback @ 1080p? 5450's available pretty cheaply (starting @ ~us$35) i'm not sure if have enough memory or gpu power handle 1080p.
