Thread: Minix vs Linux for Learning Operating System Design?

i wish learn operating system design. wondering if should tackle minix or linux in process? books following book, though video resources (presumably videotaped lectures) welcome.

have formally studied c , c# , can program small medium sized programs in them. have basic understanding of data structures.

if take minix route, should tackle version 2 (simpler??) or version 3?

find motivating formally enroll in college or university course. online or distance courses cover operating system design available?

thanks.

minix more academic system, designed university professor. clean design. however, linux used in reality (i don't know of productive server running under minix) , lot more documentation , books on linux on minix.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings. how do I change the e-mail address for my merchant account
