Thread: SFTP with OpenSSH chroot issue

hey guys,

i've set sftp server using openssh. after following guide online, set group called sftponly , added user group. used match group switch in sshd_config file match group user's in group connect sftp sessions. set chroot point "/home/%u".

created user , added sftponly group. changed ownership of user's home directory root, , changed home directory / .

when connected using winscp locked home directory (/home/<username>) on sftp (good!) not able create files or directories in directory (bad!).

oddly enough, when change ownership user home directory, no longer able connect system on sftp. gives me connection refused message.

can explain me what's going on? i'm new @ setup go easy on me

guys

maybe try this:

chown root.sftponly /home/whatever
chmod g+rwx /home/whatever

make directory's group (sftponly) able create files.
