Thread: Wifi goes up and down... sometimes stays down

i've had intermittent wifi issues since began using ubuntu 11.04 few months ago. i'm using system in ways make unacceptable, i've been doing web research looking solution.

found several threads may relevant issue; have ideas of how proceed. purpose of post seek on 1 aspect of issue haven't seen reported others.

pc connected wireless router (actiontek provided verizon fios service) , wired connection not possible. wireless signal not strong i'd (maybe 3 out of 4 bars), works reliably when boot pc windows 7. i've been @ pc , seen wireless connection go away spontaneously , come few seconds later. main way notice issue when ssh or vnc sessions other computers in house (wirelessly connected actiontek router) go down. can reconnect within seconds, takes minutes.

typical interval between failures hour or two. stays longer, don't think it's ever stayed more 24 hours. fails when connections idle , when i'm doing things on pc.

part that's different. (maybe once or twice day) connection goes away good. i've been able make come more once moving mouse login screen come , entering password unlock screen. configured power management preference never have computer sleep, , put display sleep after 15 minutes. have system configured lock screen when exiting screen saver mode.

question here is: there other settings should check might explain why connection goes away persistently? when boot windows, can have vnc session day while i'm @ work, ubuntu it's few hours @ , gone until home , unlock screen. can't merely unlocking brings back. maybe i've cycled wireless connection off , on; i'm sure @ least twice came merely unlocking screen.
