What do I need to do?

i have 475 page book in pdf (a proof) created in indesign person. tried convert pdf word using export pdf, produced of document in caps , nonsensical words, incrypted indesign. want edit book myself need convert pdf file indesign? not know version of indesign other person used. don't want have re-type whole thing on using word...help! thanks, barbara 

the ideal situation if can somehow original id file. try save pdf rich text format. give better result.

 

by way, in properties/description can see application used create pdf.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
