Thread: Accessing Ubuntu via FileZilla using sftp

i have small subnet ubuntu machine , windowsxp machine. i've been trying establish connection between 2 machines either telnet or ftp started , able move files across. both seem communicate via ping <ubuntu machine> , ping <xp machine>. install openssh hopes talk xp machine ubuntu via filezilla. error: connection timed out , error not connec server. when use telnet protocol mismatch , time out error. did try setting desktop sharing on ubuntu side not sure doing need do. there services need running on ubuntu make work? in filezilla on xp box tried sftp://<machine name>, username, password , port set 2222. or suggestion appreciated.

ssh defaults port 22, unless changed use port 2222, won't listening on port.

try using filezilla , punching in username, password, ip address , port , see if connects way.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
