Thread: Ethernet modem problem
hello, everyone. i'm having problems adsl modem. seems malfunctioning, want sure it's modem fault before buying new one.
1) it's working (ranging few seconds several hours), "happens". after that, neither external, nor local resources accessible. includes modem's control panel @ 192.168.1.1. modem's leds show "activity" machine (flashing), either machine or modem sends packets, guess.
2) pinging 192.168.1.1 in state results in either silent packetloss, or destination host unreachable:
so, guess packets 1296 , 1297 lost, while others can't find route host.code:from 192.168.1.x icmp_seq=1295 destination host unreachable 192.168.1.x icmp_seq=1298 destination host unreachable
3) tried connect via wlan0 instead of eth0 (which connected modem, too) , couldn't access 192.168.1.1 either (pinging says destination net unreachable). should rule out both eth0 nic , cable fail, right?
4) wireshark shows outgoing arp traffic (asking has 192.168.1.1), modem doesn't respond arp in way. also, reason wiresharks shows ip eth0 ipv6.
well, there chance of improperly configured interface or firewall, or modem done for?
sometimes, rebooting modem helps , works time again.
not necessarily; modem or computer not correctly configured wireless.
rebooting modem fixes problem while. rebooting computer -- fix problem while? if not, either modem or isp. worth speaking isp in case diagnostics show problem on line.
btw, i'm presuming modem , router in single box; correct?
