Must ... Go ... Faster ...

hi, all.  realize section of forum isn't geared toward this, i'm not sure else pose question.  figured i'd start here, if can recommend better resource i'd happy take problem there.

 

the issue, in nutshell, got monster workstation expected perform faster is.  need either understanding how best configure system or managing expectations.  machine brand new dell t7600 workstation , put in nvidia quadro k5000 graphics card it, upgraded quadro 4000.  understanding k5000 has twice muscle of 4000 , expected see significant reductions in render times applications, including ae, premier, , cararra (3d software).  far, results have been little underwhelming , test render ae seems take same amount of time did previous card, quadro 4000.

 

most of configuration options listed in control panel seem relate 3d rendering and/or gaming, didn't notice radical improvement in render times carrara either.  can't seem find advice on how set card.  missing something?  nvidia site explains great benefits of k5000, gives little info beyond that.  advice or referral someplace detailed info welcome.

the thing in after effects benefits jump quadro 4000 k5000 ray-traced 3d renderer... , card isn't supported use in current version of after effects (though in next version).

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
