Thread: strange german keyboard layout

hello,

i'm under ubuntu maverick , have following strange problem german keyboard layout. on keyboard (a standard qwertz keyboard), 3 characters { [ \ should obtained altgr + respectively keys 7 8 ? . on maverick, if type altgr 7 8 ? , obtain & • —.
now, if use gnome "keyboard layout" app, (see picture layout3.png), shows same wrong characters & • —. if same on other computer german keyboard, picture layout-good.png, shows expected layout.
tried compare files /usr/share/x11/xkb/symbols/de on both computer, can't see difference.
... what's wrong !?

in advance idea.
ps : way, tested live natty on same computer, , keyboard ok.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
