Thread: Why is 32-bit install recommended over 64-bit?

folks,

when go download ubuntu image, says "download 32-bit (recommended)." don't understand why 64-bit being discouraged? there issues 64-bit image?

building htpc , running vlc. there problem av codecs on 64-bit?

i don't think 64 bit not recommended per se, but, 64 bit becoming standard. plus if have 64 bit processor, 32 bit able run on processor. if have 32 bit processor, 64bit os not run on processor. plus many programs have not been compiled work 64 bit, 32 bit program should still work on 64bit os , processor.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
