Thread: Backlight switching off when logging into KDE Plasma Desktop

hi everyone,

happy new year! i've got problem using kde ubuntu 11.10 on acer 5336. there general problem acer laptops anyway when using ubuntu in that, @ boot, backlight switched off there solutions means can switched on again , login screen shows fine.

if log in standard ubuntu (unity) there no problem , backlight stays on, wanted try kde, , when try login kde plasma workspace, backlight switches off again! it's bit annoying, honest. backlight working again requires running command:

setpci -s 00:02.0 f4.b=00

wrote script , tried kde autostart run it, won't because needs run root - result: screen stays black!

there way can kde run script root, or there way run command can backlight on again? can't see input command terminal, other way it, it's pain!

appreciated.

for else having problem, here answer found here:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1864513

open terminal , type in terminal:

code:
gedit ./etc/rc.local
this open rc.local file. @ bottom make sure looks below , save.

code:
sudo setpci -s 00:02.0 f4.b=00 exit 0
you should fine, reboot , check out.

system's backlight comes on fine during boot modification. there's helpful script switching backlight on when 'wake up' suspend or hibernate

luck!
