Thread: Motherboard won't boot ubuntu.

i got asus m5a97. , going dual boot windows/ubuntu, however, due being uefi bios, brought some... "challenges".
on regular installation, ends loading windows boot loader , going straight windows. tried making uefi partition loader , reinstalling ubuntu, did install boot loader there, , motherboard tried load it. wouldn't work, motherboard wouldn't launch loader @ , had repair system in windows 7 fixing windows boot loader wouldn't fix that, makes me think motherboard when not using compatible uefi bootloader, load first boot loader finds on hard drive. , happens windows 7 one, tried using easybcd create link ubuntu bootloader, got nowhere.

there anyway fix this? know motherboard loads linux boot loader fine, of cases seen standalone, or @ least guess linux first in order in partition list.

lots of users uefi having issues , have got working. hope have uefi summer have been saving links , following issues.

uefi install works best reverse of bios grub erases efi partition , reformats (may fixed working on fixes). if efi partition windows files can reinstall them, have grub/ubuntu files reformat fat32 , restore both windows efi , grub efi files.

installer should not format existing efi system partition

1. of modern uefi systems come gpt instead of mbr.
2. grub needs installed esp (efi system partition). esp has first partition in drive, file system of fat variant, , has larger 100 mib (200mib or more recommended). ubuntu mounts esp default in /boot/efi .
3. after install grub in esp, need make boot enrty using efibootmgr, or launch uefi shell

so, in short: create partitions on non-efi system, mkdir 2 folders , install. if knew start simple.
