Thread: What is .encryptfs and why is it using so much data?

my hard drive full. able remove 1 huge file freed 20 gb. hd full size 500 gb. right i'm looking @ "disk usage analyzer." it's showing ".encryptfs" using 246.2 gb , "david" (home folder) using 246.2 gb. next folder use disk space user, using 2.7 gb, var using 861 mb.

.encryptfs? can take hint name it's encrypting filesystem. seems huge waste if system needs duplicate data encrypt it. there anyway eliminate folder?

the clue they're identical in size. ecryptfs encrupted home folder. don't worry, actual space consumed both ecryptfs , home folder 246.2gb, not 492.4gb might think.
