Trouble with resolution (I think!)

yep, didn't want ramble on if there no-one out there.

i made text files on http://homepage.ntlworld.com/john.kirk/ links on left next sheep. decided change 1 of pages tutorials needed new file match. can see, doesn't :") @ all. it's jagged edged , horrible. i'm in elements , i've opened 1 of old files , gone resize can see resolution , it's filled in 72 pixels per inch, i'm not sure if that's file or suggestion resizing?

the font looks letters more spaced? lost font , had reinstall, might different.

as i'm saving file gif keep transparent background, i'm given lots of options. have no idea of them mean, press ok. have done when made originals, options might set differently now.

on page http://homepage.ntlworld.com/john.kirk/programme.htm, can see shadow file made mouse on using font. again, horrible rough edged , dark.

any tips gratefully received :)

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
