Thread: Computer Build - Some Questions About Installation
hi,
(as arrives through shipping) i'll putting desktop together. had few questions installation issues. hoping list them , see if can help.
1) sata devices don't have jumpers worry about? true?
2) if have mother board 6 sata connectors 3 sata 6 devices attach - there order of connectors on board? there connector 1, 2, 3... etc? and, if so, should connect devices in order starting @ first one?
3) if #2 above right - how know connector on board?
4) if have 3 sata 6 hard drives , 1 sata dvd/cd multi drive - multi drive sata 3 probably? should connect sata 3 connector , hard drives sata 6 connectors? it's stupid question, know, have ask. i'm not sure optical drive sata 6 , want sure of right type of connection attach to.
5) sata 6 , sata 3 connectors shaped different - can't accidentally connect sata 3 device sata 6 connection? or same physically , have identify connector plug devices into?
6) there possiblity connect of plugs either direction , if don't put in right direction visit smoke genie? (i know molex , can burn out easy if screw - sata?)
7) know connction on memory sticks (on stick itself) has notch doesn't dead center. assume there "right way up" or "right direction" insert them. how know right direction is? don't want trying force in wrong way.
8) how know right direction inserting cpu? noticed there small triangle on 1 corner of cpu , 1 on socket on board - go by? fine little pins on cpu, wouldn't want bend them
9) how identify pci x16 slot on board opposed lesser pci? (bad terminology, know). how know pci slot plug graphics card max performance it's capable of?
10) there typical practice regarding cables being included devices and/ or mobo? monitors? there in particular can "expect" regarding this?
advice surely appreciated. i'm hoping first build comes off smoothly.

okay, first off there no sata 6. there sata, sata 2 (3 gb/s) , sata 3 (6 gb/s).
made first build hardware wise can give alot of details...
cannot cables wrong sata ports, neither on motherbord nor on devices (it wont fit if plug in wrong, not worry that).
not matter @ plug sata devices. important thing speed - ever reach full potential of sata 3 port ssd. hdds have slow read/write speeds.
otherwise ports same, sata 2 or 3.
ram sticks have small notch, not on center, offset few millimeters, able insert them "the right way".
knowing pci 16x slot is easy. have small snatch attached hold graphics card , differently colored rest of pci slots. included editied photo of board, boards should have same pci slots (number of slots can differ).
need cable management, not easy , had fiddle around of time building pc. took me total of 4 hours assembly pc, 1 hour screwing hardware , 3 cable management. (i may include photo of interior later..)
