Thread: Install CD hangs at "Loading file initrd..."

i'm trying install ubuntu 11.10 desktop on computer , when cd starts loading up, hangs after:

code:
loading file initrd-3.1.0-1.2-desktop...done
some background:
1. acer aspire ax1470
2. it's efi bios
3. reformatted , partitioned hd gparted (in parted magic i've since been told can't work efi, don't think should matter loading cd)
4. checked md5 sum of iso against hashes @ ubuntu's site , it's correct

idea wrong?

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings. how do I change the e-mail address for my merchant account
