Thread: Lost data but didn`t get hard disk space - is it somewhere around?
hello!
i`ve made 2 partitions on disk, 1 small system (35gb) , big data (around 400gb). because bigger partition i`ve made later, system partition got full (some movie clips, photos, docs, etc. today i`ve decided move files bigger partition. seems copying files didn`t finished, after reboot files not on bigger partition - they`ve perished home folder!(before copying i`ve made folder on big partition root (sudo) , i`ve gave premission myself read/write, i`ve copied files - didn`t saw bar, i`ve thought fast - fault, should think 20gb of files should take more time copy).
- files aren`t in home folder, arent @ bigger parttion (even folder i`ve made root perished!) - after login system gave me message, there onl;y 300mb free space on device - files must somewhere around! not in trash, , "locate" don`t show me lost file names. can files? taking free space?
help!
small partition ext4, bigger ext3
i`ve mounted bigger partrion @ start-up mountmanager - maybe that`s why? can`t why created folder super user perished! , i`ve made new folders again , don`t persished anymore...
after copying files bigger partition i`ve made symlinks home folder - after restart broken
was /home folder on system partition, , made bigger partition mount /home folder? if guess wrong rest of post no use you.
if so, guess original files still in /home folder on system disk. bit can't see them because bigger partition mounting there , hiding original contents.
find difficult unmount /home folder while you're logged in, think best thing fire live cd , use file manager there on these partitions. should able see both home folders then, , able copy files between them.
