Thread: No Grub

10.04 on acer aspire 5250
having trouble pulse audio took out had it. stuff quit working put in live cd , wrote down installed plans re-install there.
can't in. ubuntu lead page comes disappears , i'm left sign in laptop. window comes up.
after several tries typed in grub , informed no grub installed. tried install , following:

failed fetch http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/....04.2_i386.deb

e: unable fetch archives, maybe run apt-get update or try --fix-missing?

ran apt-get udpate , sudo apt-get install grub , same thing.

i'm new don't have clue went wrong unless can guide me through know put live cd in , start over.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
