in possession of acer aspire 5735z, integrated graphics problem, ubuntu 11.10, , hole in wall head used be.

trying play game or 3 on laptop, strangely, none of them run. after fair amount of ticked-offedness on lack of working, gave , watched cat videos. i...well, let's skip ahead 3 or 4 hours.

after attempting run blender after installing it, hit upon idea integrated graphics card doesn't ubuntu much, , things weren't working had opengl and/or 3d hardware acceleration.

ex-windows user when hardware isn't playing nice software? that's right! iiiiiiiiit's driver time! or thought.

see, have intel gma 4500mhd integrated graphics card/system/thingie included in laptop. such, spent 2 fun hours rummaging around intel's website until found that's kind of what want. support ubuntu? of course not. how silly of me. if running fedora 10 or windows distribution under sun, i'd fine. nooooo. yet middle finger me.

do? i've lurked , lurked until can lurk no moar, , have resorted posting thread this. site has right drivers, (as far ca n tell) here. approaching correctly?

ubuntu have auto detected intel graphics chip , installed relevant drivers. time manually install graphics driver if want official amd or nvidia drivers.

run 'glxgears' on command line, if see 3d gears turning gpu working correctly. suspect problem more down trying run 3d applications intel chip not support.

opengl has gone through many improvements on years , not graphics chips support features particular software may require
