Thread: Problems with graphics, sound, and upgrading on Ubuntu 11.04

hello,

i'm new both ubuntu , forum apologize in advance if has been solved already.

i'm using dell inspiron 9300 running ubuntu 11.04 (natty) , experiencing few major problems both hardware , software.

firstly, after playing grand theft auto iii via wine. system began experiencing 3d rendering problems including problems unity interface. explain happening, have included screen-shots descriptions below ...




unity 3d interface on system. work around either use ubuntu classic (no effects) or unity 2d options.



here, google earth having trouble rendering globe.


have taken few steps remedy issue. first, reinstalled x.org driver. when problem persisted, removed x.org driver , replaced fglrx, find ati dropped hardware acceleration card (ati radeon mobility x300). reverted x.org tried backing system , reinstalling ubuntu. again, problem continued occurring. guess is firmware. if case, how fix this?


problem having maybe related 1 above. when attempting upgrade 11.10 (oneiric), install fails right before restarting, leaving system unusable. i've tried upgrading twice , same thing happened each time. read related problem i'm having graphics card installer may have trouble communicating it.


lastly, computer having latency issues sound. i'm using sigmatel c-major audio card , when record or listen files, ubuntu logon sound, skips , distorts. not happen time , have been able watch videos on youtube without many issues.


apologise asking many things in 1 thread, i've tried browsing other forums answers , haven't found these specific problems.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings. how do I change the e-mail address for my merchant account
